Lakeview is one of the most sought after areas of the city. The two major sections of the neighborhood, Lakeview East and West Lakeview are divided by Clark Street. An expansive community, Lakeview incorporates the lakefront districts and thrives commercially with well over 300 retail stores throughout the neighborhood. This is the most populated area in the Midwest due to its great shopping, dining, and nightlife. Not only does it have great shopping of its own, it is just a few miles from Michigan Avenue’s “Magnificent Mile” with the most elite retail stores in the nation. The “Mile” has stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman-Marcus, Macy’s, and Bloomingdale’s just to name a few. Another great asset of Lakeview is that it is just four miles from the Loop.
As far as education goes, there are a variety of public grade schools as well as private and parochial schools. On the high school level, you have Lake View High, Lane Technical High, St. Benedict High, Gordon Technical High, and Heart of Mary High School for girls. Northwestern University, Truman College, and the Goodman School of Drama are nearby also.
Wrigleyville, a part of Lakeview, is the home of the Chicago Cubs’ Wrigley Field, hence the name of the neighborhood. The restaurants and bars are always full but during baseball season, they entertain thousands of baseball fans, and those that live close to the field are lucky enough to have “rooftop” seating for home games. Besides the Cubs, Wrigleyville has its own strong retail area with well over 600 shops on the east side. If baseball is not your thing, then you can always visit The Lincoln Park Zoo, one of the largest “free” zoos in the world. It even has its own dairy farm and conservatory.
Even though mainstream Lakeview and Wrigleyville are into the shopping, dining and entertaining aspects, 20 magical steps away from all that takes you into a whole new world. One of impeccably maintained tree-lined streets with lovely homes of all kinds of architectural styles from almost century-old to just yesterday. This is probably another main reason Lakeview and Wrigleyville are so popular. Rent or own a beautiful house in the “country” and still be within 5 minutes of all those gorgeous stores and restaurants.
