Streeterville

The Lakefront provides the setting for an endless array of activities. Entertainment is just a short ride away. Chicago’s collection of fine restaurants, city attractions, clubs and recreational activities provide endless opportunities for everyone.

Streeterville is one of the fastest developing neighborhoods in Chicago. With so many historic sites, galleries, and famous shopping centers, it is by far one of Chicago’s busiest neighborhoods. One site that visitors and locals both love to visit is the John Hancock Center. This sleek, black multi-use building has the best views of the city (next to the Sears Tower). From the 94th floor observatory to the lofty Signature Room restaurant- “upscale” dining has a completely new meaning. The sights from this swanky lounge and grill are spectacular and a meal from this height is well worth the splurge. However, if you don’t want to break the bank on dinner, you could just pop up for a nightcap. Drinks are still expensive, but the romantic panoramic view pays for itself.

Another popular site is the Tribune Tower, headquarters of the Chicago Tribune Newspaper. The gothic architecture of this building has made it a popular backdrop for movies, like the Batman series. At the tower’s base is a small collection of rocks labeled from locations around the world that makes it an interesting sightseeing stop. You’ll also find the Museum of Contemporary Art in the middle of this neighborhood, which not only has regular exhibitions, but also hosts modern film, music, and dance performances.

The finest shopping strip west of Park Avenue, North Michigan Avenue’s “Magnificent Mile” is home to some of the biggest names in the business- Macy’s, Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Chanel, and Prado to name a few. Don’t forget Oak Street and its famous boutique designers including Vera Wang, Kate Spade, Hermes, Lester Lampert and more. If that’s not enough, there’s always Barney’s of New York and the unbelievable in-door mall, Water Tower Place. Eight exquisite floors of shopping and eating with more than 120 specialty shops, seven cinemas, and several choices in restaurants

As for education, besides Chicago’s public schools, you can choose from private and parochial schools. Schools such as Montessori School Near-North, Latin School of Chicago, Francis Parker School, Quigley Seminary North and St. Ignatius College Prep to name a few.

Public transportation-taxis, buses, subways, elevated trains, and expressways make it easy to get around the city and to and from the suburbs. For more travel information, visit www.transitchicago.com.
